Malaysia International Furniture Fair 2023
The higher speed
It happened in 2022, so near, so far. In these times of great uncertainty, Informa, the organizer of the show MIFF (acronym of Malaysian International Furniture Fair) decided to relaunch the event, as the world was just recovering from a pandemic that had been yo-yoing since 2020.

In a still very degraded global context, some states have decided to reopen their borders, with serious precautions, of course, but they had had the courage to open a breach in this context of global isolation. The management teams of the show, therefore, did not hesitate to take advantage of this very opportune window of opportunity to restart the machine.
However, you had to dare. If the pandemic showed obvious signs of weakness, nothing was certain at the time not so long ago, especially in a region of the world so sensitive to epidemic phenomena. Even if the Covid has not affected South East Asia more than the other continents in comparison with the other continents, the subject is sensitive in these countries due to a hot and humid climate conducive to the proliferation of Viruses in all kinds. Only, the time clock was also dangerous for the sustainability of the salons, and the salon MIFF was no exception to this rule. After 2 years of forced interruption, should we let another year go by, without anything happening? The risk of forgetting was enormous. Fortunately, the organizers did not sit idly by. To compensate for the lack of a physical meeting, they have set up a virtual fair, named Furniverse, which was well received and met with real interest and great success with buyers. However, it should be made clear that this virtual fair was not born solely as a reaction to the situation. The project had been in the cards for a long time, long before the onset of the pandemic.
The eternal need for human contact
Only, as efficient as an online show can be, it will never replace physical exchanges and this, the organizers were well aware of. This is why it was unthinkable to let time slip by waiting for another month before reopening on the anniversary date. Freed borders; It was decided to relaunch the show as soon as possible, and so from July 6 to 9, 2022, the MIFF finally welcomed its visitors after such a long break. It was obviously a transition room. The main idea was not to find the performances before the Covid, far from it. First of all, it was necessary to reoccupy the ground. This was the objective, and it was achieved since 10,000 professionals from 94 countries and administrative regions were able to walk the aisles of the show and discover the novelties and innovations of 192 exhibitors at the heart of the two sites. Let us remember that these are called MITEC and WTCKL. The first constitutes its historical heart. Located in the heart of the buildings of the Seri Pacific hotel, he is the soul of this salon. By its layout, by its environment, its decoration, there reigns an atmosphere like no other. Of course, the reception is in unison. Everything is designed to make the visit easy, all with kindness, benevolence and remarkable efficiency, which makes this meeting a unique moment in the often a little cold world of international meetings. It is really good to live in these buildings, which does not prevent efficiency. Since its creation, the volume of trade has never stopped growing, until the disastrous Covid episode. The proof is with the decision of the organizers to occupy the very modern building named WTCKL, located not far from the previous one, to be able to accommodate ever more numerous exhibitors. To this end, a very efficient shuttle system allows you to navigate in complete relaxation and ease from one platform to another. This system, unique in the world, is extremely efficient and no visitor has ever issued the slightest criticism, quite the contrary.
A major and not least asset for the Malaysia International Furniture Fair
But beyond all these practical considerations, there is one element that has allowed the show MIFF to mark the spirits in a decisive way. Indeed, this return to the heart of the summer of 2022, the organizers have marked essential points since they are going to Kuala Lumpur was the only international meeting dedicated to furniture in the Asia Pacific region. No one has forgotten that the Chinese ogre had double-locked its borders, which resulted in the cancellation of its giant salons. A boon for Informa group, who was able and knew how to take advantage of this unexpected window of opportunity. This is therefore also the reason why the teams in charge of the event did not want to wait until 2023, which allowed them to keep this lead, which is a major asset. In any case, this choice pays off since the edition which will be held from March 1 to 4 displays with nearly 600 exhibitors, a figure that brings us back to the level of 2019! The bet is therefore largely a winner. Visitors will thus be able to discover the national productions, those of Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, but also the Taiwanese, Japanese and South Korean pavilions, without forgetting a very important presence of 200 Chinese manufacturers.
In terms of supply, it goes without saying that his majesty the wood will reign supreme, which is not a surprise, since the country is full of species of exceptional variety and quality. Quality but also innovation, and the rise of design. Everything is therefore in place for this great return to business to be an announced success, as in the finest hours of 2019. We can only be delighted.
