Maison et objet  winter 2024

Upmarket

Nothing dampened the enthusiasm of visitors to the salon Maison et Objet, not even the snow or the cold that fell on the Paris region. The annual high mass of interior design and decoration in the broadest sense of the term has once again lit up the aisles of the Villepinte exhibition center on the occasion of its winter 2024 edition, offering visitors a wide panorama of the hottest trends in a field where inspiration was omnipresent, where creativity defied conventions and where innovation was king.

As for exhibitors, it should be noted that the show has mobilized strongly to renew its offer: +9% in the number of exhibitors in total compared to January 2023, with 2,516 brands including more than 60% international. Also note the 30% of the offer, made up of new brands present at the show. This enriched proposition was met by a visitor audience up +5%. If in September 2023, we noted a more timid participation of French visitors, the reconquest of this key target worked in January. It is in fact on French visitors at +9% and major exports at +25% that growth is more evident in this edition, with good progress in the United States at +8% and Asia at + 83% driven by Japan at +52%, India at +18% and the return of China. Conversely, Europe recorded a decline of 9% as a result of a difficult economic situation, due in part to inflation, and an unstable geopolitical situation. However, at the end of the show, it should be noted that there was almost equality between French and foreign visitors (58% for France, 42% for international visitors). These are the three major visitor profiles, namely interior designers, who recorded the strongest growth at +8%, hospitality professionals (+2%) and retailers (+1%), who received the special attention of the organizers. Although retailers may have suffered from a somewhat complicated end to the year, the time has come for dynamism and renewal, thanks to an offer offering a wide range of desirable, sustainable and environmentally friendly products, supported innovative solutions.

Imagination and creativity

To this end, the teams running the show have spared no effort in terms of imagination, like hall 7, designed as a showcase dedicated to high-end decoration. Named Signature, it welcomed at each of its entrances, two specific universes, bringing together heritage, poetry and prospecting. He first presented “Alchemy”, an immersive and unique installation in the world of Baccarat. The Crystal House, recognized internationally as one of the references of true French know-how, took advantage of its return to celebrate its 260th anniversary at the show. Echoing this was on the other side of the course, a second highlight through the unique scenography of the Designer of the year 2024 Maison&Objet, Mathieu Lehanneur. Also designer of the Olympic flame, Mathieu Lehanneur, unveiled exclusively for the occasion his visionary and dreamlike installation Outonomy in the already iconic yellow monochrome.

Beyond these two specific events, Elisabeth Leriche In her WHAT’S NEW? In Decor entitled “Nouveaux Mondes’” Elizabeth Leriche, proposed TECH EDEN, a dive into a magical and mysterious nature, marked by bold, sophisticated patterns and strong colors. A reconciliation between technology and nature. Alongside these big names, Maison&Objet also exhibited the new guard of design through different programs. Thus, the Rising Talent Awards, which for this special edition of the thirty years of the show, allowed seven young international talents to interpret the theme TECH EDEN of the season via creations mixing “high technology and know-how”, between excellence of gesture and technological innovation. On the other hand, the program Future On Stage, the Maison&Objet incubator allowed young brands to participate in the show. Three winning brands were selected, strongly involved in virtuous approaches, offering recycled and recyclable products and materials with an inspiring aesthetic. Finally the The Maison&Objet Factory, offered a selection made from the most beautiful pieces of Paris Design Week Factory presented last September.

The Hospitality market, a booming growth sector

In the heart of Hall 6, the creative strategy consulting agency Peclers Paris staged “INSPIRE ME!”, an immersive and multi-sensory installation to embody the TECH EDEN theme. Prescribers in this rapidly changing and expanding sector were able to live a prospective but concrete experience presenting a selection of brands and avant-garde talents to understand the new uses and developments of the profession as well as its environmental issues. The REV Architecture studio, for its part, imagined the showcase of the Hospitality Lab space, a physical, inspired and daring incarnation of the hybridization of hospitality venues, weaving a bridge between hotel lobby and luxury flagship. To this end, an invitation to celebrate the joy of living around the installation of an oversized table showcasing their vision of generosity and spectacle in a scenography that is both high-tech and very “French savoir-vivre”. In terms of decor, hospitality is proving more than ever to be a gateway to the residential market, allowing interior designers to move from one to the other with ease.

Means and solutions to support retail

The WHAT’S NEW? In Retail, designed by François Delclaux and BETC DESIGN, offered for the first time, a range of products but also solutions to animate, arrange and develop its sales space. With a targeted coaching workshop program for the retail market involving international experts on very specific and practical business issues, retailers were able to interact, question and train in best business practices to develop their business. The Well-being & Beauty sector, launched in September, was positioned at the heart of the retail offer to diversify its products and provide experiences to customers at points of sale, in addition to more categorized or seasonal products. . As a common thread, visitors were able to discover and identify brands labeled eco-responsible by a jury of experts invited by the show. The “Sustainable” course was also a response to the growing demand, across all professions, for new products, but also for brands committed to reducing their carbon footprint (material and product). Finally, the Talks identity program was a great success. Beyond the product offering, Maison&Objet stands out for the density and quality of shared content and its ability to bring together major players on the international scene so that each professional can improve their practice. Visitors had the chance to see gathered on the same stage a highly inspiring cast of international stature like Martyn Lawrence Bullard, Ramdane Touhami, Martin Brudnizki, Charles de Vilmorin, Andrea Trimarchi (Formafantasma) and Nelly Rodi , faithful friend of Maison&Objet for thirty years.

Maison et Objet, a show at the top of its art

In conclusion of this 2024 edition, it is perfectly clear that the Maison&Objet show draws its offer from the top via a high-quality scenography, a global offer where the products are perfectly adapted to the trends of our time, or authenticity, sustainability and environmental respect remain the key words. To this end, it was enough to note the omnipresence of organic materials, such as raw wood, natural stone, rattan. Unsurprisingly, manufacturers and industrialists have designed their ranges based on the well-being of consumers. At the same time, revisited Vintage is now establishing itself over the long term, notably with pieces remarkably reinterpreted via contemporary design. This reminiscence towards the past was verified almost everywhere at the show with a strong presence of retro motifs with Art Deco accents, including the bold colors of the 70s. What marks this edition is the precise targeting of each sector of the overall offer, with however a particular effort aimed at professional prescribers in the field of hospitality. The other remarkable fact was marked by the support of the retail sector, without which nothing is possible in terms of commercial exchanges. In a time as complicated as the one we live in, support for these actors is essential. The organizers understood this very well and spared no effort in terms not only of information, but also of pedagogy via the multiple met. In our opinion, this constitutes the highlight of a show which remains at the top of its art, whatever the circumstances.
