Encouraging young talent

In addition to its flagship exhibition and presentations, since its inception in 2010, the MIFF Furniture Design Competition constitutes the MIFF's flagship platform for discovering and supporting young Malaysian design talent. For its 16th edition, the MIFF FDC 2026 invites designers under 40 to create bedroom furniture for children aged 5 to 9, combining imagination and functionality, designed to meet the lifestyles of Generation Alpha and their Millennial parents. "It's about designing for the consumer of tomorrow," said Dr. Eric Leong, chairman of the MIFF FDC jury. "The competition encourages innovative ideas that not only meet the needs of today's children, but also help to strengthen the international reputation of Malaysian design." The winners of MIFF FDC 2026 will receive cash prizes totaling RM 12,000, trophies, and international recognition, including awards for Best Mentor and Best Institution. The 2025 edition attracted 335 applications from 30 institutions and private companies, demonstrating the growing relevance of the MIFF FDC in the sector. 3 strategic pillars

Building on the success of MIFF FDC, the MIFF launches the MIFF FDC CLUB in order to create a continuous ecosystem of collaboration and growth. Structured around three strategic pillars – CONNECT (networking) SELECT (targeted collaborations) and EDIT (content development) – the MIFF FDC CLUB The program connects young designers with established manufacturers.
